Merchandising Tips for
Georgia Peaches:
Best Practices
to Enhance Sales
The sweet, juicy taste of Georgia Peaches signifies
the delights and sales of the Summer season. Recent
research has revealed that Georgia Peaches have
a powerful brand recognition among consumers. Please
view our brand
power section to learn more about
the power of the Georgia Peach brand. Here
are some best practices to maximize sales:
1) Point-of-Sale
Materials:
The Georgia Peach Commission’s colorful
point-of-sale materials highlight the sweet taste
of Georgia peaches and showcase our dominant brand. You
can download the artwork here to use for POS materials
for your stores.
In a recent study, 80% of consumers surveyed stated
they prefer Georgia-grown peaches over peaches
from other states/regions; therefore, we recommend
placing the POS on or next to the peach display
so consumers know you’re carrying sweet Georgia
peaches.
2) Showcase
a Range of Firm to Ripe Peaches in the Merchandising
Display:
Consumers are divided on how
they prefer to purchase their peaches. In
fact, a third of consumers surveyed stated they
prefer to purchase both firm and soft, ripe peaches
while 19% stated they prefer to ripen their peaches
at home.
The merchandising display should include peaches
in a range of ripening stages from firm to ripe
and ready to eat to meet all your shoppers’ needs.
If possible, we recommend dividing up the display
to showcase the firm peaches and the soft/ripe
peaches. Include signage on the display so
shoppers can quickly find their preference.
3) Display
Sliced Peaches in Demo Domes:
Taste/flavor
is the number one reason that prompts consumers
to purchase fresh peaches. To
increase sales, slice up the peaches and display
them in a demo dome next to the peach display.
89% of consumers surveyed stated they prefer the
taste of Georgia grown peaches compared to peaches
from other states.
4) Health
Benefits are a Purchase Trigger:
In our recent research study, 77% of consumers
surveyed stated they would be more likely to purchase
peaches when informed of the following nutritional/health
benefits:
- Contain vitamin A, in the form of beta
carotene
- Good source of fiber
- Sweet, low-calorie alternative as a healthy
snack with no fat, sodium or cholesterol
We recommend highlighting the health benefits
in your in-store circular advertisements and on
point-of-sale materials and displays.
5) Consumers
want Information on Storage and Handling:
More than half of the respondents polled in our
consumer research study stated they prefer to see
tips on storage and handling in the peach display
as well as information on where the product is
grown.
In fact, consumers prefer this type of information
over recipes. We recommend handing out handling,
storage, peeling and slicing tips when conducting
in-store demos.
6) Taste
and Flavor are Priority for Consumers:
Taste
and flavor ranked at the top of the list as the
number one reason why consumers purchase fresh
peaches with quality and appearance ranking second
and price on sale ranking third.
The wide majority of respondents (89%) stated
they prefer the taste and appearance of Georgia
grown peaches compared to peaches from other states.
