The Georgia Peach Brand
Go Ahead, Just Ask The Consumers
Georgia: The Peach
State
Georgia-grown peaches are recognized for a superior
flavor, texture, and appearance. In fact, Georgia
is known as the "Peach State" because
of its long-standing history with peaches and the
growers' reputation for producing premium quality
fruit.
The peach became the official Georgia state fruit
in 1995. And recent consumer research
reveals that Georgia peaches have a powerful brand
recognition that extends way beyond the state.
Consumer Preference for Georgia Peaches
In a 2006 consumer research study conducted by
the Perishables Group, in partnership with Sahlman
Williams, 1,000 consumers were polled from three
major regions of the country – Southeast,
Northeast and Midwest.
Nearly 80 % of those surveyed ranked fresh
Georgia peaches as their first choice among all
of the peaches produced nationwide. Other
survey highlights:
- Nearly 60% of consumers surveyed
stated they would pay more for Georgia-grown
peaches;
- More than half of respondents in the Midwest
and Northeast said they would be willing
to pay more;
- While 63% of respondents from Georgia and
the Southeast responded that they would be
willing to pay more
- 89% stated they prefer the
taste and appearance of Georgia grown peaches
compared to peaches from other states.
Consumers clearly prefer Georgia-grown peaches.
